Five projects will receive funding through the Small Project Grant Fund provided as part of the Village of Moravia’s $2.25 million NY Forward Award.
In 2023, Moravia was selected as a recipient of the inaugural round of NY Forward Awards, a state grant designed to support downtown economic growth and revitalization in rural and smaller communities across the state. As part of the $2.25 million award, $300,000 was set aside to create the Small Project Grant Fund to support mixed-use and commercial property improvements in Downtown Moravia, expanding the award to smaller projects not originally included in it.
The Cayuga County Planning & Economic Development Department has announced that nine applications were submitted by the September 12 deadline. Of those nine, five projects were selected on October 6 to share in the funding.
The department has now announced which projects were chosen.
10-10 BBQ & Catering Company has been awarded $50,000 for HVAC upgrades in the main dining area of a new building and new brewery area at its 5 Adams St location.
$47,713 + $15,000 design services have been awarded to Woven Paths, LLC for new siding, window/door replacement, new lighting, signage, completing two commercial spaces, ADA Bathrooms, electrical, HVAC & plumbing upgrades, soft serve machine, espresso machine, grinder, fridge, freezer, range, dipping coolers, and sinks at 41 Aurora St.
Moravia Liquors, located at 101 S Main St, has been awarded $25,000 for painting, window recaulking, repairs to the concrete front step, repairing the porch area steps and railings, and lighting upgrades.
Moravia Bookstore & Apartments at 124 Main St will use the $82,500 it has been awarded for structural/foundation repairs, new siding, window replacements, new ceiling tiles, flooring, HVAC upgrades, upgrades to two apartments, ceiling tiles, flooring, wall repairs, and painting.
$49,787 has been awarded to The Hamilton Salon & Apothecary at 144 Main St to create a new residential unit on the second floor and update/make improvements to the entrance, stairs, and common area.
The Planning & Economic Development Department is currently working with the Village of Weedsport on its Downtown Revitalization Initiative and NY Forward Award applications, which it submitted on November 4.
