A partially frozen lake in the Finger Lakes region shows open water and footprints on the ice, related to a missing person investigation in Cayuga County.

The body of a 66-year-old man who was reported missing after last being seen on Sunday at his cottage on Cross Lake in Cayuga County was located by State Police on Wednesday.

Search teams identified an area on the lake where it looked like a UTV may have broken through the ice. After an extensive search, the man’s body was pulled from the water. Troopers believe the unidentified man was riding a UTV when it went through the ice but the utility vehicle has not yet been recovered.

The initial investigation started Sunday with the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office after the man’s wife reported him missing. The case was later transferred to State Police when it was determined the man was last spotted in Cayuga County.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the New York State Police at 585-398-4100.
