The Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is getting a new boat.

On Tuesday, the county legislature authorized the office to purchase and equip a new patrol boat to replace one of its current vessels that had reached the end of its useful life.

The sheriff’s office operates a fleet of four boats with ones being kept year-round at Lake Ontario, Owasco Lake, and Cayuga Lake. The fourth is left in reserve in case it is needed elsewhere within the county.

The purchase of the boat was included in the office’s budget for 2024 and 50% of the associated costs will be reimbursed by the NYS Parks Department.
