Field of Honor Returning to Weedsport Library

Community News Release
Hundreds of small American flags planted closely together in a grassy field, likely for a memorial or patriotic event.
Hundreds of American flags are displayed as part of the Field of Honor at the Weedsport Library, a local tradition for Memorial Day.

A display honoring deceased veterans is returning to Cayuga County later this month.

Community members will be able to purchase American flags in the name of a veteran to be displayed at the Weedsport Free Library as part of its Field of Honor.

Speaking with Finger Lakes News Radio, Interim Library Director Linda Quinn said “it’s a really nice reminder of the ones that [community members] have lost and a nice thing for our small town to do for Memorial Day.”

She went on to explain that with Weedsport’s small size, many people viewing the field are able to recognize the names of family and friends who have passed on.

Flags and a list of the veterans they represent will be placed on library’s lawn on the 26th, just in time for Memorial Day, and remain in place until Flag Day on June 14th.

Flags can then be picked up by families on the 15th and 16th.

The deadline to order a flag is May 24th.
