Fair Haven could soon join six other Cayuga County communities designated as pro-housing by New York State.

The village has submitted a letter of intent to become a certified pro-housing community to the New York State Homes and Community Renewal. The Cayuga County Planning & Economic Development Department is assisting the village with its endeavor.

Certification would make Fair Haven eligible for up to $650 million in state discretionary funding including Downtown Revitalization Initiative and NY Forward funding. In 2023, Governor Kathy Hochul established the Pro-Housing Communities Program through an executive order to expand the housing supply across the state.

The City of Auburn and the Villages of Aurora, Cayuga, Moravia, Union Springs, and Weedsport have already received pro-housing certification.
