Following the announcement that Cayuga County Sheriff Brian Schenck will not seek a third term in office, Chris Major announced Sunday that he will seek the Republican and Conservative Party nominations for Cayuga County Sheriff.

Major, a lifelong resident of Cayuga County and 21-year veteran of the Auburn Police Department, expressed deep respect for Schenck and his commitment to the county.

“Sheriff Schenck has led with professionalism and dedication, and our deputies work tirelessly every day to protect this county,” Major said. “I want to build upon that strong foundation, continue that hard work, and provide steady, common-sense leadership focused on service and accountability.”

In his announcement, Major claimed his campaign will prioritize strengthening public safety, supporting deputies, and ensuring the accessibility and responsiveness of the Sheriff’s Office.
