As spring arrives, the Cayuga County Sheriff’s Office is reminding everyone to share the road.

With the arrival of spring, rural communities, including the majority of Cayuga County, see an increase in farm vehicles, horse-drawn carriages, and bicycles on the road that typically lasts until the fall. With this increase, the sheriff’s office is reminding motorists of the importance of sharing the road with these vehicles and giving them extra space.

According to the sheriff’s office, crashes with agricultural vehicles are five times more likely to result in a fatality when compared to those involving nonagricultural vehicles.

The office is reminding motorists to give extra space to cyclists, horse-drawn carriages, and farm vehicles, especially those displaying the orange slow-moving vehicle triangle.
