Cayuga County will continue to charge a one percent sales tax on top of the state sales tax. The Citizen reports the legislature has approved the law extending the tax. The bill was introduced by Republican Assemblyman John Lemondes and Democratic State Senator Rachel May. The entire county legislative delegation voted in favor. The state allows counties to charge up to a three percent tax of their own. With the county tax, Cayuga County residents pay a total sales tax of eight percent. The bill is expected to be signed by the Governor.
