The Cayuga County Office for the Aging Senior Nutrition program says it has an urgent need for Meals on Wheels volunteers to deliver to homebound rural residents throughout the county.

As the country’s population ages, the office says it’s seeing an increased need for services for older adults in the community.

Not only do Meals on Wheels participants receive a meal each day, but they also receive daily social interaction with the volunteers and an informal wellness check, allowing them to remain independent in their homes.

According to the office, deliveries happen out of Auburn and Moravia, typically two hours on weekdays.

Prospective volunteers are provided with orientation, training, and a shadow run with a seasoned delivery driver. Additionally, the office says volunteers can choose their own schedule and work with a partner or drive solo.

Those interested in volunteering are asked to contact 315-253-1104 or [email protected] for more information.
