As New York celebrates the bicentennial of the Erie Canal, one Cayuga County town will celebrate with a new festival Sunday.

The first annual Brutus Erie Canal Festival will take place from 9:30a-3:00p at Centerport Aqueduct Park in the Village of Weedsport.

The free family-friendly event will feature a kids’ fun run along the canal, historical displays and educational presentations, old-fashioned kids’ games, live music, local vendors, and more. There will also be a pie-eating contest; the winner will receive $100 from the town while the Weedsport Lyons Club will donate $500 to the food bank in the winner’s name.

The festival is designed to commemorate not only the history of the canal but also the history of the town and community.
