Auburn has selected a new contractor for its annual street repaving program.

After five years of using Paul F Vitale Inc., the city will use Northern Asphalt LLC for the 2024 Road Improvement Program after the Syracuse-based group underbid Vitale. Northern Asphalt’s bid was just under $1.8 million while Vitale’s was just under $2 million.

This follows the council policy of selecting the lowest responsible bidder for projects.

According to the city, asphalt resurfacing including partial reconstruction, patching, crack sealing, micro-surfacing, milling the road surfaces, and installing asphalt trueing and leveling and top courses are planned for seven roads in the city.  Those roads are:

  • Havens Ave, from Owasco St to S Seward St
  • Maple St, from E Genesee St to Walnut St
  • Metcalf Dr, from Lake Ave to South St
  • Pulsifer Dr, from Copley St to Fleming St
  • Scammel Ave, from Frances St to Walnut St
  • Steel St, from Hamilton Ave to Swift St
  • Walnut St, from Howard St to S Seward Ave

Three alternative streets have also been chosen:

  • Standart Ave, from North St to Vista St
  • Chestnut St, from E Genesee St to Walnut St
  • State St, from Seymour St to VanAnden St.
