Auburn Okays 5% Tax on Hotel Stays, Short-Term Rentals

At Thursday night’s Auburn City Council meeting, councilors approved a 5% tax on hotel stays and short-term rentals. The tax will apply to overnight stays at city hotels, as well as Airbnb and other vacation rentals. City Clerk Chuck Mason said it is the end of a nearly three-year-long endeavor

The tax will go into effect on July 1st. Cayuga County has a 5% hotel tax that has been in effect for three decades.
