The City of Auburn is buying a new ambulance.

City Council Thursday approved a $234,673 budget transfer to allow Auburn City Ambulance to purchase a sixth vehicle. Fire Chief Mark Fritz explained to Council how the six-strong fleet would operate.

“We will have four ambulances in service with crews with them,” Fritz said. “Two ambulances will be backup ambulances to take care of any influx of calls which there often are and to cover shift change.”

Currently, due to call volumes and maintenance, the ambulance service often has crews ready to respond to calls but without an available ambulance.

As their vendor has a surplus of ambulances, the vehicle is expected to arrive relatively quickly.
