2024 CAP Xmas Elf Toy Drive Underway

Red gift boxes tied with white ribbons are a classic symbol of holiday generosity and celebration.

As people begin to think about the holiday season, one nonprofit is launching its annual toy drive.

Cayuga County’s Community Action Program (CAP) is once again hosting its annual toy drive to collect items for distribution to families in need throughout the county.

Carolyn Moore helps with the program. She told Finger Lakes News Radio that the event helps ensure that no child goes without Christmas presents.

“We typically give every child a book, a coloring book and crayons, a large toy, and a small toy, and an article of clothing if we have it.”

Moore added that, in recent years, more families have relied on the program; however, donations have been down since the COVID-19 pandemic.

100% volunteer-based, the program invites businesses throughout the county to host collection boxes at their sites. Individuals can also drop off toys directly to the CAP office at 81 York Street Suite 1 in Auburn. Monetary and toy donations can also be made online.

Toy donations will be accepted now through December 4.

Families in need of assistance can contact CAP at 315-255-1703 ext 102 or [email protected]. Applications will be accepted until November 15.

The Christmas Elf program began in 1987. Last year, the program provided assistance to 1,394 children and their families.
