An Ontario County woman has been sentenced after admitting to assaulting a New York State Trooper who was responding to a domestic incident earlier this year.
Ontario County District Attorney Jason MacBride announced that Leslie Dimaya was sentenced Tuesday in Ontario County Court by Judge Stefanie Barnes following her guilty plea to Assault in the Second Degree, a Class D violent felony.
The charge stemmed from an incident on Jan. 13 in the Town of Canandaigua. According to prosecutors, State Police responded to a domestic disturbance when Dimaya intentionally caused physical injury to a trooper who was performing a lawful duty.
Judge Barnes sentenced Dimaya to shock probation, which includes six months in jail followed by five years of probation supervision.
The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Paul Irving.
In a statement, MacBride said law enforcement officers routinely place themselves in dangerous situations while responding to calls for service and protecting the public.
“Assaulting a police officer who is performing a lawful duty is a serious offense, and today’s conviction and sentence reflect the seriousness of that conduct,” MacBride said.
