Cayuga County’s annual Trade-A-Tree program will return this week.

The program, a collaboration between the Cayuga County Planning Department, Cayuga County Soil and Conservation District, and Cornell Cooperative Extension of Cayuga County, allows residents to exchange their Christmas trees following the holiday for a certificate for a White Spruce seedling, redeemable at the conservation district’s Annual Spring Tree and Shrub Sale to be held on May 8, 2026. Trees that are exchanged at the event are chipped and used for county projects, saving them from the landfill.

Trees can be exchanged on the following dates/times at the Natural Resource Center, 7413 County House Rd, Auburn:

  • December 26, 2025: 8:00a-3:30p
  • December 29-30, 2025: 8:00a-3:30p
  • December 31, 2025 8:00a-12:00p
  • January 2, 2026: 8:00a-3:30p
  • January 5-9, 2026: 8:00a-3:30p
  • January 12-16, 2026: 8:00-3:30p

Decorations, tinsel, and wraps must be removed from the trees before they can be exchanged.

For more information on the program, visit the conservation district’s website or call 315-252-4171 ext 4.
