After weeks of talks and at times heated debate, Auburn is expected to pass its budget this week.
City Council will vote on Thursday whether or not to adopt the proposed city budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year. The vote will take place during the regularly scheduled council meeting at 5:00p at City Hall.
The budget comes after weeks of department head reports and public comment periods, where the economic reality facing many municipalities across the state took hold.
A memo sent to the mayor and council from City Manager Jenny Haines and Comptroller Mary Beth Leeson stated, “In the current economy, the City of Auburn, similar to many municipalities is battling inflation while revenues remain relatively flat. City of Auburn staff made significant efforts this year, analyzing revenues to determine achievable revenues, and departments
have made significant reductions to expenditure budgets to match the level of service with those revenues.”
