Concerned Citizens plan forum focusing on hunger

Have you ever gone to bed hungry? Do you know children who have never had access to fresh fruit? Is the term “Food Insecurity” just a polite way to talk about hunger?
If you are interested in learning more about how the nutritional needs in the Yates County community are met or if you worried about how local households will fill their plates through the winter, you might be interested in an upcoming event organized by Concerned Citizens of Yates County. Following the successful programs held by the group in May and July, this group of local residents has been meeting to organize its next forum: “A Yates Conversation: Impact on Hunger.”
Come and learn more about what is happening in the public schools and community organizations dedicated to addressing hunger in this forum focusing on how federal and state policies impact food security.
This forum will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30 on the second floor of the Penn Yan Fire Department, 125 Elm St, Penn Yan. The group’s goal is to provide information about who in our county might be experiencing food insecurity and the services that exist to help them.
A panel of speakers who will present information on their areas of expertise include:
Amy Miller, Commissioner, Yates County Department of Social Services
Dana Burton, Director of Food Services at Penn Yan Central School
Connie Glover, Director of Penn Yan Community Cafe and Keuka Advocacy Services
Marianne Rosica-Brand, ProAction Associate Director
Mitch Gruber, Chief Program Officer, FoodLink of Rochester
Seating will be limited to 150, there is parking behind the fire house, and an elevator is available.
Mike Rusinko will return as moderator, and a recording of the forum will be available online for those unable to attend the event.
Dave Boyd has graciously agreed to provide sound. Seating will be limited to 150, and elevator service is available.
The May forum focused on the impact of federal and state policies on local services and businesses. The July forum focused on agri-business.
